Sophia Kaminski

About the Artist

Sophia Kaminski is a French-born multidisciplinary artist, mosaicist, painter, designer, and creator of Judaica who lives and works in Jerusalem. Her work stands at the meeting point of ancient tradition and contemporary artistic expression, drawing inspiration from Jewish heritage, Hebrew language, sacred texts, mosaic, graffiti, and urban culture. Through a joyful explosion of color and symbolism, Kaminski creates works that celebrate Jewish identity while expressing an unwavering hope for redemption.

Her artistic journey began in France, where she studied sculpture and mosaic under Monique Sidelsky at Le Cru et le Cuit and master mosaicist Giovanna Galli at La Mesure. These formative years instilled a profound appreciation for mosaic—one of humanity's oldest and most enduring art forms. This respect for permanence continues to shape her work, even as she embraces the spontaneity and immediacy of contemporary street art.

Rather than viewing these traditions as opposites, Kaminski allows them to enrich one another. Ancient mosaic, with its thousands of years of history, meets the vibrant visual language of graffiti and contemporary painting. Hebrew letters become living forms, sacred words become visual rhythms, and familiar Jewish symbols are transformed into dynamic expressions of faith, optimism, and renewal.

Joy occupies a central place within Kaminski's artistic vision. Her paintings and mosaics are intentionally vibrant, inviting viewers to experience hope even while confronting the complexities of the modern world. Color is never merely decorative; it becomes a language through which spiritual ideas are expressed. Whether working in mosaic, acrylic, collage, or mixed media, she seeks to communicate the enduring vitality of Jewish life and the beauty that emerges when tradition continues to evolve.

Living in Jerusalem profoundly influences Kaminski's work. The city itself becomes both inspiration and studio—a place where ancient history and contemporary culture exist side by side. Her artistic practice reflects this unique environment, bridging the sacred and the everyday while celebrating the creative energy found within Jewish life today.

Underlying all of Kaminski's work is a deeply rooted spiritual vision. Her greatest source of inspiration is the Jewish hope for the Messianic Redemption—a future in which harmony, peace, and Divine presence become fully revealed. Rather than portraying redemption as a distant dream, she presents it as a living expectation that shapes the present through creativity, joy, and acts of beauty.

Over the course of her career, Kaminski has exhibited extensively in Israel and internationally. Her work has been selected for the prestigious Salon d'Automne in Paris on multiple occasions and includes public mosaics, mixed-media paintings, Judaica, community art projects, and collaborations with Jerusalem's street artists. Regardless of medium, her work remains united by a singular vision: to reveal the joy, hope, and spiritual vitality at the heart of Jewish life.
