What appeared at the time to be a private and uncertain encounter became the foundation of the Davidic dynasty and the unfolding story of redemption.

At the center of the composition are objects that allude to the signs Yehuda left with Tamar as a guarantee of his promise. Here, Cohen Zada reinterprets these identifying items through contemporary symbolic forms, including the tie, the tallit, and the stamp. Together they represent identity, accountability, and the evidence that would later reveal the truth.

Above these objects appear small dolls, symbolizing birth, continuity, and the future generations that would emerge from this union. Their presence points toward the eventual birth of King David and, ultimately, the hope for Mashiach that lies embedded within the biblical narrative.

One of the most powerful elements in the painting is the lighter. According to the Midrashic understanding of the story, Tamar was prepared to face death rather than publicly embarrass Yehuda. Even when she possessed the evidence necessary to save herself, she chose to reveal it in a manner that protected his dignity. The lighter evokes this willingness to accept personal sacrifice rather than cause humiliation to another human being.

The work brings together multiple layers of meaning: personal responsibility, hidden identity, courage, and redemption. Through these symbolic objects, Cohen Zada transforms an ancient biblical episode into a timeless meditation on the choices that define human character and shape the destiny of generations.
